I also notice hard hangs on boots from time to time with earlier kernels. with the update to 2.6.27-4.5, I tryed to boot 5 times in a row without success.
the symptoms: boot succeeds to mount rootfs, check file systems until about loading 'restricted modules' and then hard hangs. no caps lock working anymore.
