Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cpio
The issue with cpio is that the config.h file does not properly get the definition HAVE_GETPWNAM defined. That causes lib/system.c to compile in a bogus definition of getpwnam(). This appears to already be fixed in the cpio in the debian experimental which was stamped 2.9.90-1 IE: http://packages.debian.org/experimental/cpio Of course not having this option work in the ubuntu 8.10 alpha 6 breaks certain scripts.
