The black green I get into when running GDM is terminal--there's no way I can possibly see the output of `ps aux | grep x` after starting GDM. Your last comment seemed to be assuming I was using a laptop. I'm not. This is happening on a "stock" Dell Optiplex desktop. Let me know if your comment still applies to desktops. Cheers.
