I have the Dell dimension C521 and am running Feisty 7.04 I get the same
message at startup MP-BIOS bug 8254 timer not connected and I used to
get a kernel panic message as well telling me to try the noapic kernel
parameter, I don't get that bit of the message any more since I updated
the kernel but now when I start up I get the grub loading page then a
flashing curser and at the bottom a kernel alive message but it goes no
further, I switch the machine off and try again, after three attempts it
says MP-bios bug 8254 etc... then loading and Ubuntu starts up but it's
always three attempts before it will load !! How do I choose 'noapic'
and will it solve the problem? I see that the last post on this one was
July, so maybe there is a fix, if so please could somebody direct me to
it?
