I still think this is still an issue. A good solution would be to
display three letters that are more recognizable for the layout. Perhaps
DVK for dvorak possibly even QTY for querty.

An even better solution would be to let the user select the word or
letters displayed for each layout as it is done in KDE.

I will mark this wishlist if I can learn how to.
