Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx
I cannot get fglrx to work with my Radeon X1600Pro. I have the AGP version of the X1600Pro in a 4X AGP motherboard. Mine's Diamond branded with 512MB RAM. Under "lspci" it shows up as: 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV530 [Radeon X1600] 01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV530 [Radeon X1600] (Secondary) The card has a DVI and a VGA output, I'm using the DVI output, but neither output works. The card gets basic, non-accelerated functionality without any special drivers. However, Ubuntu recognizes it as an ATi card and recommends installing the "fglrx" package. This has happened since 7.04 or so. Back then (before fglrx got the AIGLX update), it worked. It didn't work well, but it worked, and basic 3d acceleration worked, and it didn't crash. However, after fglrx got updated to AIGLX and the Ubuntu repository was updated with the new drivers, it hasn't worked. Period. It hasn't worked since then. I use the Hardware Drivers app to auto-install the fglrx driver as it requests. It downloads and installs the package then tells me to restart the computer to apply. When I reboot, it comes up with the "Ubuntu" loading screen, but instead of getting to the login page, it flickers the monitor 5 times and then goes into a low graphics mode telling me to change driver settings. It sets default on fbdev, but knowing I have a Radeon, I tell it to use fglrx. However, this doesn't do anything so I have to CTRL+Alt+Backspace it. I then switch over to a terminal and log in. I use nano to edit xorg.conf with fglrx driver. Then I do "startx" The x process starts, screen goes black, and then nothing. Dead nothing. The PC doesn't respond to any key signals, the only thing I can do is manually power off and restart it, and it repeats this as long as fglrx is set up. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ATI Radeon X1600Pro AGP crashes fglrx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269255 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
