Hi Matt, I'd recommend trying the Alpha5 LiveCD since it came out last week - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/alpha5 . There should be Kubuntu images available. If you did 'udate-manager -d' it would actually update your entire system to Intrepid (not just the kernel) which I'm not sure you'll want to do. You could enable the Intrepid repository in your sources.list file and just install the 2.6.27 kernel, but if you are unfamiliar with how to do this I'd really recommend testing with the LiveCD.
