Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio
Required steps: Make a new user account. log in to it (or you could just delete the current ~/.pulse directory). Totem cant play sound. Running pulseaudio in terminal gives: $ pulseaudio ...... .... E: core-util.c: Failed to symlink /home/josh/.pulse/f47b6620623e1e4eae6b248a489f8dd3:runtime to /tmp/pulse-0qgfBbCBwzk4: No such file or directory $ If you create the directory ~/.pulse, pulseaudio can sucessfully create the symlink inside it, and then start.
