Ah, I've finally found the right bug # for this. This problem has been around for a long time for me, and still prevents me from using 3D screensavers. Other GL apps seem to work okay, although I haven't tested this a lot. Both the xscreensaver-demo previews and the actual screensaving freeze the system randomly. Sometimes it takes longer, sometimes shorter, but eventually they all freeze the system. No ctrl-alt-key combination works to get a clean shutdown, only the reset or power-off buttons work.
My videocard is identified as a ATI Radeon 9200 SE (RV280). Package versions are from current Feisty (==Edgy, since it's only been a few days since that release).
