Hi, thanks for reporting this bug. It sounds to me less like xorg and more like usplash/framebuffer. Given you describe the screen as black with progress bar this is likely to be the case.
Can you test the following to disable usplash on each cold boot and see if the problem still occurs? Boot to the grub menu (press escape to get to see it), then on the first item (usually the kernel you boot), press 'e' to edit. On the next screen go down to the kernel line and press 'e' again then remove the words "splash" and "quiet" from the line, and press enter. Finally press 'b' to boot. This should mean the usplash screen (ubuntu logo and scroll bar) will not be displayed. If the problem no longer occurs then we may be able to say that it's usplash or the framebuffer driver that's at fault. -- Xorg sporatically garbled on boot on Dell D630 (Intel GM965) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268010 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
