I think edubuntu-desktop-kde is to be installed in place of the regular edubuntu-desktop metapackage, but edubuntu-addon-kde is to be installed alongside it. Why they aren't one in the same is beyond me. Krita probably isn't appropriate for Edubuntu, it's more of a professional product. Kolourpaint seems like it would make a nice candidate if it can get into main in 8.10 or 9.04.
