*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 59618 *** I switched to the fglrx drivers on Kubuntu 64-bit 6.06 to fix the problem for my computer, but when I upgraded to 6.10, the graphics reverted back to the problematic drivers. This problem probably exists even if you upgrade from the Ubuntu distribution (64-bit or 32-bit). That means that upgrading changes the drivers back; this is also something that should be considered.
