I believe that this part of xorg is now ignored because of hotplug. As
expected when I removed 'Option "SHMConfig" "on"' and restarted X and
hal the synaptics touchpad was functional.

Only 1 error: (WW) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad can't grab event device,
