Ah thanks for the reminder on this. I was too hasty to conclude that 'Separate layout for each window' was a fix - it isn't... about 80% of the time my desktop starts up with US keyboard layout.
It makes things quite confusing when I do an rdesktop to another machine, and it's on UK layout! What cryptically-named commandline tools (xkblayman or somesuch) are available to help debug this issue?
