synaptic 0.57.8ubuntu11 on Dapper i386 on a AMD 64 based system. I had also installed a Dapper 64 on this system just before the i386 version and the problem was not present. The new installation comes after a format of the ext2 partition.
Synaptic can install/uninstall/reinstall software without problems, the only thing that does not work is the Setting - Repositories panel. I have also tried apt-get install and worked perfectly. I have also tried to reinstall synaptic itself.
