Public bug reported:

I just added a printer. I looks like ubuntu doesn't set it as the
default printer automaticaly. This results in the fact that acroread
can't print by default (which is very inhuman :)). Also in gnome-apps, I
have to explicitly select my printer, because 'generic postscript' (one
could ask: "what does that mean?") is highlighted by default everytime.

However, when I set the printer to default, acroread can print and the
gnome-apps print to the default printer.

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed
