Previous message by me: "I got the same problem: Radeon 9200SE" I found out that what were causing this problem for me was the ATI driver downloaded from ATI's website. I disabled the 3d-rendering (as someone wrote in a thread at ubuntuforums.org) and now it almost works fine. What I can remember I had no problem opening OpenOffice Writer before installing ATI's driver.
