My goal is to have a .deb package installable with apt-get. What I am asking advice on is primarily the distutils script. The procedure on how to get to a .deb package is there just to give a context to my question and - hopefully - to have somebody tell me if I am 100% wrong and indeed a setup.py script is NOT part of the process. I'm going to reply to Ramit in a second and hopefully I will be able to further clarify there what I am asking.
