Hm... or did you (speaking to the OP) intend for your script to interpret strings you're reading from another source, like user input or a text file, and letting those input sources use the string building syntax?

I guess it would be better to step back and tell us what you're actually trying to accomplish and maybe we can suggest an alternative approach. You've asked a pretty narrowly focused question here and it's hard for us to see it in context.
