I am suffering from this too, there doesn’t even seem to be any way to suppress the syslog pollution.

I searched around to see why this might be and ran across the following avahi mailing list post along with a patch to fix it: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/avahi/2012-July/002171.html >>> I would say you can safely ignore it, since any machine on your network running a recent OSX version will cause these messages.
