Ubuntu is working to move to it's own solution - Unity8 with Mir.
(We're also moving to use Qt as the primary toolkit, not Gtk)

I think, Ubuntu base installation needs more beautiful and more
sophisticated task bar in base installation. AWN currently is most
stable and functional dock for GTK system. Let's make it default!
