It seems to happen at random, I have noticed it more but only when emoji are sent in medium-long messages, this wouldn't be by any chance the emoji being split in text messages? I will try and find some more examples of these messages.

This has happened on two occasions, first when the text was rather long, after I split it into two texts it delivered fine. And another time which I sent a few times which became blank on the receiving phone I removed the emoji character "🎥" and then the text went through fine, the receiving person has an Iphone.
