Update: now the print dialog appears after about 3s, with all the 14 printers. Also, launching apps is not blocked anymore until the dialog appears. So this is much improved, although still not on par with Evince, where the print dialog appears instantly.

During this time, it is also not possible to quit the app: a dialog appears proposing to "Close after printing", "Cancel" or "Abort Print and Close"; choosing "Abort Print and Close" does not close the app. On the same machine, the print dialog in Evince works fine, opening the same PDF file. The print dialog appears immediately upon pressing Ctrl+P.
