You have been subscribed to a public bug:
On Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS (kernel 6.x), the built-in microphone on the
Xiaomi Redmi Book Pro 14 (2024) is not working.
Symptoms:
- arecord -l shows the capture device (ALC256 Analog)
- pactl list sources shows alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo, but it
stays in SUSPENDED
- pavucontrol reports "Microphone (unplugged)" and provides no other port
options
- Recording with arecord produces silence
- alsamixer shows Mic Boost and Capture at 100%
Tried workarounds:
- Added `options snd_hda_intel model=alc256-*` with various options
(dell-headset-multi, acer, asus, lenovo-ideapad)
- Reinstalled `firmware-sof-signed` and `alsa-ucm-conf`
- Tried newer kernel (6.8.x)
No success. It looks like ALC256 GPIO pin config or quirk is missing in
the driver for this laptop model.
**Expected result:**
The internal microphone should be recognized as connected and available for use.
**Device:**
Xiaomi Redmi Book Pro 14 (2024), Realtek ALC256, Intel HDA controller.
Please advise or consider adding proper quirk for this model.
