Title: [12.10] During boot: monitor goes off (ATI Radeon HD 4670) / mount points that contain space \040 give error while mounting Status in grub-gfxpayload-lists package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in mountall package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Just installed Ubuntu 12.10, after adding this line: LABEL=vms /home/pascal/VirtualBox\040VMs ext4 defaults 0 2 to /etc/fstab during boot the monitor goes off (power saving mode) but the computer keeps running leaving the user clueless. If found out that pressing Esc, switching Plymouth to text mode, brings back the display showing the following error: fsck from util-linux 2.20.1 fsck from util-linux 2.20.1 fsck from util-linux 2.20.1 root: clean, 171040/1250928 files, 869849/4999680 blocks home: clean, 1219/27992064 files, 2037241/111949312 blocks vms: clean, 168/31563776 files, 106498084/126240512 blocks mountall: Event failed mount: /dev/sda7 already mounted or /home/pascal/VirtualBox VMs busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda7 is already mounted on /home/pascal/VirtualBox VMs mountall: mount /home/pascal/VirtualBox VMs [956] terminated with status 32 mountall: Filesystem could not be mounted: /home/pascal/VirtualBox VMs I have the following partitioning table: see attachment partitiontable.txt When booting into recovery mode and selecting "resume" I get the same error message but with these lines added at the bottom: An error occurred while mounting /home/pascal/VirtualBox VMs. keys:Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery After pressing S booting succeeds and /home/pascal/VirtualBox VMs is mounted. Pressing S at the point where the monitor goes off also succesfully boots. Ran fsck: no errors on /dev/sda7. Tried commenting out the line with this mount point from /etc/fstab, then my computer starts fine. Removing the space \040 from the mount point also boots without problems. So there seems to be 2 problems here: 1) monitor goes off during boot giving a bad user experience and 2) mount points that contain space \040 give error: already mounted. WORKAROUND/FIX for problem 1): When blacklisting my ATI Radeon 4670 by adding v1002d9490.* to /boot/grub/gfxblacklist.txt and then running sudo update-grub2 the screen doesn't go off anymore and shows Plymouth with a descriptive message: An error occurred while mounting /home/pascal/VirtualBox VMs. Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery WORKAROUND for problem 1) and 2): disable plymouth: sudo mv /etc/init/plymouth.conf /etc/init/plymouth.conf.disable, although probably not a real fix for 1) since "power saving mode" is still shown breefly on the monitor but the systems boots into the login screen. If any further information is necessary please let me know.
