Hi Nathan, Thanks for the suggestions. It does look like clicking on the Additional Drivers tab is common to almost every instance where this issue occurs but it doesn't always trigger the issue. For every test where i only click on the Updates tab and no other tabs, I don't see the issue. In two cases, the not responding message occured before I had even finished typing in my password to the authentication box.
I did look into the following messages which occur in all tests (regardless of pass {no issue} or fail): Mar 26 22:58:19 t14s polkitd[1511]: Identity `unix-group:admin' is not valid, ignoring: No UNIX group with name admin: No such file or directory Mar 26 22:58:24 t14s polkitd[1511]: Operator of unix-session:2 successfully authenticated as unix-user:aaron to gain TEMPORARY authorization for action com.ubuntu.softwareproperties.applychanges for system-bus-name::1.315 [/usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/software-properties-gtk] (owned by unix-user:aaron) The first message seems to relate to bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/policykit-1/+bug/2084151 I can also confirm that modifying /usr/share/polkit-1/rules.d/ubuntu-admin.rules to group adm from admin and rebooting, I no longer see the 1st message but the reported issue in this bug report still remains. In subsequent tests, I get the following, regardless of whether I see the reported issue or not: Mar 27 10:17:47 t14s gnome-shell[3731]: polkitAuthenticationAgent: Received 3 identities that can be used for authentication. Only considering one. Mar 27 10:17:51 t14s polkitd[1460]: Operator of unix-session:2 successfully authenticated as unix-user:aaron to gain TEMPORARY authorization for action com.ubuntu.softwareproperties.applychanges for system-bus-name::1.282 [/usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/software-properties-gtk] (owned by unix-user:aaron) There seems to be some inconsistency and I can't see anything obvious. Perhaps you will see something of interest from the attached logs or please let me know if you need something else. ** Attachment added: "tests and log messages.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-properties/+bug/2104209/+attachment/5867625/+files/tests%20and%20log%20messages.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to software-properties in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2104209 Title: Applying changes to the value of "Notify me of a new Ubuntu Version" causes timeout message "Software & Updates Is Not Responding" Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since upgrading from 24.04LTS to 24.10, when applying a change to the criteria for notification of a new Ubuntu version (e.g. from "For any new version" to "For long-term support versions" from the Updates tab of the Software & Updates application, the application becomes unresponsive and an error message appears: "Software & Updates" Is Not Responding. You may choose to wait for a short while for it to continue or force the app to stop entirely. Clicking on "Wait" generates a repeat prompt almost immediately and I need to keep clicking on Wait each time until the application completes the process and exits. I did not count or time but estimate approx 6 or 7 times over 30-40 seconds. N.B. I recently had to re-install the update-manager package as it dissapeared completely at some point after the distribution upgrade. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open Software & Updates application 2. Navigate to Updates tab 3. Change the value of "Notify me of a new Ubuntu version" to "For long-term support versions" for example 4. Authenticate with password when prompted 5. Click on the Close button. 5. Click on Wait when the error appears. This has occured multiple times on different days and today, however when repeating to write this description, it worked without incident.
