Title:
Graphical crash loop on fresh installation

Bug description:
Upon fresh install of Ubuntu Mate 24.10 beta
(http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-mate/daily-live/20240918.1/oracular-desktop-amd64.iso),
the installation completes successfully, but the reboot ends up in a kind of
graphical crash loop.
The mouse regularly warps back to the middle of the ever black screen.

From time to time, I see a bunch of scrambled console output (see
  screenshot attached).
