Thank you for the quick answer. After all, it's only three days and twelve years since I filed this one. The problem has, for my part, been solved years back, since I switched back to Debian. Keep up the good work and for spreading a bit of joy!

Not booting degraded arrays is also a problem for new administrators, since jumping into busybox blanks the screen and in pratice stops the information flow from the system.
