I have also been watching the days tick down to expiration.

I see that this has been fixed in Debian with tzdata 2023c-5+deb12u1.
It would be great if an updated package would flow through Ubuntu.

Title:
  leap-second.list expiring this week

Status in tzdata package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
It appears the tzdata package has not been updated with the 2023d
timezone data. Current distribution is 2023c.

  leap-seconds.list is expiring Dec 28th 2023,

My fix was to download and extract https://data.iana.org/time-
zones/releases/tzdata2023d.tar.gz. Then copy the included leap-
seconds.list and leapseconds files to /usr/share/zoneinfo.
