cairo 1.17.8 has an unfortunate regression reported at
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/cairo/cairo/-/issues/806 ("Font Family corrupted
string on export").
Hopefully, Ubuntu 23.10 can have this bug fixed by the time of its official
release.

Title:
  Update cairo to 1.18.0

Status in cairo package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Impact
  ------
Ubuntu 23.10 includes cairo 1.17.8, the final pre-release snapshot of what
eventually became the stable 1.18.0. It would be nicer to include the stable
release than a beta release.

  Detailed changelog
  ------------------
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/cairo/cairo/-/compare/1.17.8...1.18.0

  Why This Didn't Land Sooner
  --------------------------
I was told by cairo upstream developers to expect cairo 1.18.0 in August
2023. It was released September 23 instead.
