The internal mic of my Dell Vostro 1500 is extreamly quiet. It does work but one need to shout to get anything recorded. I've been trying to use all the STAC9025 models STAC9205/9254 ============= ref Reference board dell-m42 Dell (unknown) dell-m43 Dell Precision dell-m44 Dell Inspiron eapd Keep EAPD on (e.g. Gateway T1616) auto BIOS setup (default) in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, but non of these changed the signal level. I was also playing with alsamixer and various settings including muting left/right channel as suggested in some other page without any effect. The mic works good in vista.
