They do work in the password dialog of lightdm and when switching to VT console. I am attaching input-events output from a shell window under Unity and running from the VT. It appears to me like the device tries to enforce num-lock status on each keypress and on the console this causes a led event as feedback. This seems to be missing when doing the same under Unity for some reason.
