Ok, so setting "GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus" would work around the issue. That's valuable knowledge, and thank you for figuring it out.
Unfortunately you are not supposed to set that variable explicitly on a GNOME desktop, and especially not in a Wayland session. Doing so has adverse side effects, so we can't do it for all users just like that. The root cause might be in some GNOME package, e.g. mutter. Not sure how to proceed.
