Public bug reported: I am opening a fresh bug report although I am aware that similar bugs have been reported in the past. This bug is on Ubuntu 21.04 and the other bug reports relate to much older versions of Ubuntu.
I have done a clean install of 21.04 and am unable to play H264 videos. Starting totem from a terminal gives the following messages: ** Message: 11:45:32.305: Missing plugin: gstreamer|1.0|totem|H.264 (High Profile) decoder|decoder-video/x-h264, level=(string)3.1, profile=(string)high, chroma-format=(string)4:2:0, bit-depth-luma=(uint)8, bit-depth-chroma=(uint)8 (H.264 (High Profile) decoder) ** Message: 11:45:35.429: PackageKit: xid = 0 ** Message: 11:45:35.429: PackageKit: desktop_id = org.gnome.Totem.desktop ** Message: 11:45:35.429: PackageKit: Codec nice name: H.264 (High Profile) decoder ** Message: 11:45:35.429: PackageKit: ignoring field named level ** Message: 11:45:35.430: PackageKit: ignoring field named profile ** Message: 11:45:35.430: PackageKit: ignoring field named chroma-format ** Message: 11:45:35.430: PackageKit: ignoring field named bit-depth-luma ** Message: 11:45:35.430: PackageKit: ignoring field named bit-depth-chroma ** Message: 11:45:35.430: PackageKit: structure: gstreamer1(decoder-video/x-h264)()(64bit) ** Message: 11:45:35.553: Missing plugins installed. VLC is able to play the same file.
