The GNOME guys seem to have decided that this is not caused by them and closed the issue. I think that they are probably right, although I don't have any proof for that. As I said I suspect maybe some transition between Unity and GNOME. Although this is then resided in rather old code for the Upgrade, it still seems relevant, since many users might be affected.
