I recognise this problem. It's a duplicate of bug 1727356. And a fix is being worked on right now: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/merge_requests/160 ** Package changed: wayland (Ubuntu) => mutter (Ubuntu) ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1727356 Login screen never appears on early generation Intel GPUs (Core2 and Atom etc) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to wayland in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782559 Title: Wayland hangs? Status in mutter package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I have an industrial PC that needs to run Ubuntu. Installing from USB stick was a hassle. (didn't work in dozens of combinations of memory stick (kingston/adata), usb slot (front, back), distribution(14.04, 16.04, 18.04), variant (server, desktop, mini, net) When I finally got it installed, the PC would hang after booting, never completing to the login. A recovery boot allowed me to install ssh, and using SSH I could see the wayland process. I'm a bit wary of wayland, so I removed it and now the system boots. model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7400 @ 2.80GHz 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1782559/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
