Public bug reported:
1. This bug happens everytime my computer wake up from sleep: a loud crackling noise can be heard from headphones but not from laptop speakers 2. It disappears after reboot and audio works perfectly both through laptop speakers and headphones 3. Bringing the output volume to 0 doesn't make the crackling sound disappear 4. Bringing microphone volume to 0 doesn't make the crackling sound disappear 5. This bug was not present in the previous version of Ubuntu used on this computer ie. 17.04. Additionnaly, headphones contain a built-in microphone. ```lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 17.10 Release: 17.10 ``` ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu5 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-17.20-generic 4.13.8 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-17-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm nvidia_modeset nvidia ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.5 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: etienne 5390 F...m pulseaudio /dev/snd/controlC0: etienne 5390 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Fri Dec 15 10:44:27 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-05-22 (206 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: alsa-driver Symptom: audio Symptom_AlsaPlaybackTest: ALSA playback test through plughw:PCH failed Symptom_Card: Built-in Audio - HDA Intel PCH Symptom_Jack: Black Headphone Out, Right Symptom_Type: Underruns, dropouts, or "crackling" sound Title: [N501VW, Realtek ALC668, Black Headphone Out, Right] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to artful on 2017-11-26 (18 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 11/28/2016 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: N501VW.304 dmi.board.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 dmi.board.name: N501VW dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. dmi.board.version: 1.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. dmi.chassis.version: 1.0 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrN501VW.304:bd11/28/2016:svnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:pnN501VW:pvr1.0:rvnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:rnN501VW:rvr1.0:cvnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:ct10:cvr1.0: dmi.product.family: N dmi.product.name: N501VW dmi.product.version: 1.0 dmi.sys.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug artful -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1738386 Title: [N501VW, Realtek ALC668, Black Headphone Out, Right] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: 1.
