Public bug reported: My local network uses (it's being phased out slowly) XXX.cmu.local DNS names for systems on non-routable networks.
After upgrading from zesty to artful, my system is not able to resolve those names anymore, even after removing libnss-mdns again. dig reports that systemd-resolved is returning SERVFAIL This seems to be the same as this upstream report, which was allegedly fixed. https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/5048 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: systemd 234-2ubuntu12.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.13.0-16.19-generic 4.13.4 Uname: Linux 4.13.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: openafs ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu3.4 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: XFCE Date: Mon Nov 20 17:30:30 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2016-12-06 (349 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" - Release amd64 (20161012.2) MachineType: Dell Inc.
