Don't think I can reproduce this error. At the time I could not boot 14.10 normally (upstart) and systemd would boot to a valid desktop but missing some critical components (cups). I can now boot normally using upstart but systemd fails to boot at all. Tried twice and booted to a terminal session (no xorg). The second boot just hung.
