After looking into the apns-conf.xml on the device, I previously noted that settings for Tele2 Sweden did not quite match the APN settings for Nexus 4 recommended by the carrier. Strangely enough, sending MMS still works. See settings comparison below, the most notable differences being MNC and APN type. I did try changing the APN settings and putting an edited copy of apns-conf.xml in /custom/etc/ earlier, but that didn't make any difference for receiving MMS.
