The manual workaround, that has worked for me: $ sudo mount -o remount,rw / $ sudo mkdir /Downloads $ sudo chown -R phablet:phablet /Downloads $ sudo ln -s /home/phablet/Downloads /Downloads $ sudo mount -o remount,ro /
