created an ubuntu 16.04 and attempted to install a cups printer driver that works on earlier versions of ubuntu and when attempting to do a test print got an "Unsupported format 'application/postscript'! error message

Downgrading again to 8.64.dfsg.1-0ubuntu8 solved the problem.
