Thanks, I'll take this up with Folding@home as I downloaded FAHControl
directly from their web site.

I forgot to mention that there are reports from people who were running
FAHControl on Ubuntu 15.10 and when they upgraded to Ubuntu 16.04 it
still ran normally. I did a clean install of Ubuntu 16.04.

Would repackaging FAHControl to suit Ubuntu 16.04 cause a problem when
attempting to use it on Ubuntu 15.10 or other distributions that use
python2? Or can a package dependency be set to either/or?

Is there any way I can modify the package dependencies myself, or
repackage FAHControl myself?

Title:
FAHControl needs python-support which is not available in 16.04

Status in python-defaults package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have installed FAHControl (the detailed GUI control for FAHClient
(the Folding@home client)) on Ubuntu 16.04 but when I launch it it's
icon flashes in the launcher and then disappears after a few seconds
  and nothing else happens.

I ran sudo apt-get check and found:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
fahcontrol : Depends: python-support (>= 0.90.0) but it is not installable
Depends: python-gnome2 but it is not installed

  sudo apt-cache policy python-support gives:

  python-support:
    Installed: (none)
    Candidate: (none)
    Version table:

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-support shows that this
package was available in previous Ubuntu versions. I read on
askubuntu that it was removed as part of Ubuntu's upgrade from python2
  to python3.

I would like to get FAHControl running on Ubuntu 16.04.
