note: sound works as expected when the GS session is opened

Hardware is initialized using a generic method
Looks like that "Nvidia GPU ..." is detected but not identified by
alsactl (so the 99 exit code)
"init tries to initialize all devices to a default state. If device is
not known, error code 99 is returned."
