According to the information providedin the report, there are multiple
HDMI connections, at least according to pulse. How do you have your
speakers connected to your system? If you are using external speakers,
please make sure that the analog line-out/headphones out is selected in
MATE's sound settings.

If that still doesn't help, try updating the ALSA drivers, as outlined
at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS.

Title:
  Pulseaudio does not start

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I'm using Ubuntu Mate 16.04 with the current updates.

  When I start the computer, pulseaudio is not working after I've logged
  in.

  If I type:
       start-pulseaudio-x11
  from the command line, I get
  "Connection failure: Connection refused
  pa_context_connect() failed: Connection refused"
  and I cannot play any sound.

  If I type pulseaudio& on the command line, I can get sound in some
  applications (e.g. Audacity) but not others (e.g. Firefox or other
  browsers). At some point a command line message appears that says:
  "E: [pulseaudio] bluez5-util.c: GetManagedObjects() failed:
  org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible
  causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the
  message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
  expired, or the network connection was broken."

  I'm not clear why there's a reference to bluez5-util, since I don't
  have bluetooth on my machine.
