So, this seems like a not-super-well-maintained package. It looks like it gets enough love to keep it going (fix ftbfs etc), but not enough to smooth out its rough edges. That is probably enough for now.
But the bug list could be better-cared-for at a minimum. I glanced them over and saw several low-hanging-fruit dups and bugs that should be re- assigned. Not quite a blocker, but very odd, and worth confirming we aren't missing some configuration here: - preinst and postinst pull in /usr/share/debconf/confmodule but never actually do anything with it? Can we drop the use of debconf please?
