It sounds like due to differing usage patterns any solution to this
should be made optional

Title:
OSK is uncomfortably huge in a tablet in landscape mode

Status in Ubuntu UX:
  New
Status in ubuntu-keyboard package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When using the BQ M10 tablet in landscape mode, the virtual keyboard
stretches from one side of the screen to the other; this makes it quite
uncomfortable to use because of the distance one's finger needs to travel
(especially when using one single finger to type).
Also the height of the keys could be reduced (just leave them as they are on
the phone) as they look quite huge compared to the rest of the UI and take up a
lot of real estate on screen.
