There was a bug in pppoeconf, that prevented me from using it: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rp-pppoe/+bug/275415 I relalized that it is possible to handle PPPoE connections from network-manager. I tried, but I couldn't make network-manager operational anymore. I tried renaming /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider and configuring /etc/network/interfaces with no success. It seemed that network-manager was completely broken, since I couldn't setup regular LAN connection nor PPPoE.
