regarding this being fixed with an update. For future reference you can

No graphical display on Lubuntu after installation
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Lubuntu alternate xenial daily amd64 (version 20151230.1)
No problems encountered wile installing the system (installed on
VirtualBox) but after rebooting, and at the attempt of the first log
in, there are no graphics, just plain text. the problem remains and
after the log in.
