Johan Van de Wauw, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
As per http://us.msi.com/support/mb/H81M-E35.html#down-bios an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (18.5). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-18.5 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1515784 Title: UHD resolution not found when logging in, can select after login Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi, After updating from vivid to wily I noticed my screen no longer boots in UHD resolution. I can set the resolution during the session, but on next login it returns back to full hd. This is a regression from vivid, where the resolution worked without problem. This happens with different window managers. In cinnamon I get an additional error, which is solved by removing .config/monitors.xml none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes: Trying modes for CRTC 63 CRTC 63: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 63: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 1) Trying modes for CRTC 64 CRTC 64: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 64: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 1) Trying modes for CRTC 65 CRTC 65: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 65: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 1) Trying modes for CRTC 66 CRTC 66: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 66: trying mode 1920x1080@60Hz with output at 3840x2160@60Hz (pass 1) I'm willing to invest some time in trying to find a solution.
